Drivin' my car over the highways and byways
I dreamed of being a country star
But maybe it would be a dream for always
Not knowing what the future held in store
But soon came the night that was to be
A man stepped up to me after the show
He was going to Nashville, that dream of me
My heart jumped at the very thought
Months went by and finally I was there
Tootsies, the Broken Spoke, the Hall of Fame
All places I heard of before, I came there
Singing on its stages, not having a name
But the crowds were cheering and loved me
As if I had been singing there for years
And while singing they just let me be
My music was like balsam in their ears
Oh, how I wish I could be there forever
Never more to part from sunny Tennessee
So full of music, fun and friendly people
Helping you out, whoever you may be
Drivin' my car over the highways and byways
I remember yesterday's dreams
They might be dreams for always
Not being what it seems...
