did it ever occur to you
I'd like to be so much more
than just a good listener
for an hour or two
don't you see
our talks about some lover
are deeply hurting me
have become a chore
are you really that blind
or merely using my affection
for a purpose of some kind
just like everybody else
so why won't you grant me
the same opportunity
as everybody else
you were so happy
to find someone to just talk to
nothing more
well I'm tired of being someone
if talk is all I'm good for
I have been that listener for everyone
but the story of my life nobody hears
you've once again shut the door
and my tears have fallen on deaf ears
